WHAT ARE YOUR PRICES?
Our rooms are priced per person: $26.50 + taxes per adult ticket, $24 + taxes per student (FT; 23 years of age and under; with ID).
WILL I/MY CHILD NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER?
Our insurance company DOES require all guests sign a liability waiver before entering a room. Guests under the age of 18 will require a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Guests who wish to print out and sign the liability waiver ahead of time may do so by printing THIS PDF FILE.
WHAT IS AN ESCAPE ROOM?
Escape rooms are a type of adventure game where individuals are "locked in" a room with other participants. Teams must use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and mazes, find clues and keys, and solve problems and open locks in order to escape within the hour time limit.

In addition, our pricing is up front. You pay what you see + taxes; we take care of all other online processing fees!
CAN YOU ADJUST THE LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY TO ACCOMMODATE A BEGINNER GROUP OR AN EXPERIENCED GROUP?
Red Herring Escape Rooms has the ability to vary the level of difficulty of its rooms to customize the adventure to suit the desire and experience level of your group. We offer Mild, Medium, Hot, and Spicy Hot levels of difficulty. Rooms are set to "Hot" by default. If you want more of a challenge, contact us in advance and let us know you'd like a Spicy Hot experience. If you are new to escape rooms and are worried about the level of difficulty, contact us in advance and we can make the appropriate adjustment, You can also arrive a bit earlier for more preparation before entering the room. You are also able to ask for as many clues as you need.
WHY ARE YOU CALLED "RED HERRING"?
A 'red herring' has become a colloquialism for anything that deliberately distracts from what is relevant or material. The origin of the phrase is said to date back to the 19th century, when herrings were used to train hunting dogs. The smell of the herring was used to sidetrack, then teach the dogs not to be diverted from the scent of the intended, hunted animal.
HOW EARLY SHOULD THE GROUP ARRIVE?
It is VERY important that your entire group arrives between 5 - 15 minutes before the start of your scheduled event, as waivers must be filled out and a rules briefing must be given before the room can begin. Tardiness will cut into time allowed for our tips & tricks briefing, warm-up puzzles, and ultimately game-time. There is a typically a group that immediately follows yours and we can't delay their start. Similarly, arriving more than 15 minutes early will typically mean that we are still finishing up the group scheduled before yours, and so we will not be prepared for you. Persons arriving after the in-room experience has begun cannot interrupt the game for others and will forfeit their ticket without refund. If you are running late, you are expected to call (314-899-9901) ASAP in advance of your start time to let us know.
DO I NEED A RESERVATION OR CAN I JUST DROP IN?
You ABSOLUTELY need an advance reservation. We are not able to process drop ins without adversely impacting the experience for others. Think of this like air travel (without being dragged down the aisle or having your bags ending up in Vancouver). Everyone buys a ticket in advance because you want to know you have a seat on the flight and you want the airline to know to expect you. Same thing with our escape room experience. The only way you can guarantee your spot in a room is by making a reservation and purchasing your ticket in advance. In this way, your spot is held for you and we know to expect you. We need to begin on time so others in the group are not delayed in their own plans for after the experience. We cannot take time away from customers who have tickets and arrived on time to bring someone else in, process the ticket sale, and incorporate them into the group. You MUST make an advance reservation. NO drop ins. Thank you.
IF I CANNOT MAKE IT, CAN I RESCHEDULE?
We certainly understand that things come up that interfere with the best laid plans. If you cannot make your scheduled time slot, you MUST contact us as far in advance as possible, but no later than 24 hours in advance to arrange to reschedule your booking. The further in advance you contact us, the more likely it is that we can reschedule your event at a time that works well for you. While we do not offer refunds on bookings, we will help you reschedule your adventure, though prime time weekend slots are blocked out from re-bookings. If you cannot cancel more than 24 hours in advance, you MUST contact us at least 2 hours before your scheduled time in order to be able to reschedule. We bring in staff specifically timed to your bookings, and we cannot arrange to reschedule bookings for which we have not received timely notice.
IS YOUR FACILITY WHEELCHAIR OR POWER-CHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Unfortunately, it is NOT. The rooms are too small to accommodate a wheelchair or a motorized power-chair. Additionally, we are on the second floor of an old building and there are five stairs to climb before reaching the elevator. This facility is NOT wheelchair or power-chair accessible.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE A ROOM?
You will have one hour to escape the room. If you are quite crafty, you will be able to escape quicker than the time allotted.
IS THIS EXPERIENCE APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN?
These puzzles are challenging and the props in the room are, in many cases, fragile. Children need a great deal of assistance and supervision when participating in an escape room experience. High school age children are generally well-suited to an escape room adventure. As for scheduling a birthday party or other similar event, this only works well independently for high school age students and only for middle school age students when we have staff available to join them in-room.
Younger, middle school age children may be well-suited to the experience, but will require adult supervision. Children aged 10 - 12 will require a paid adult for every two children. Children aged 8 - 9 need more supervision and should be accompanied by one adult per child. Children under 8 years of age are not well suited to an escape room adventure. If you arrive and do not have the appropriate ratio of adults and children, you will not be allowed to participate in the adventure and no refunds will be given. WILL WE REALLY BE LOCKED IN?
Yes and no. You will be physically locked in, but you will always be allowed to leave the room for emergencies or bathroom breaks using the pass code 1111. We recommend intending to remain in the room for the hour, though - your team will need your help!
WILL I BE IN A ROOM WITH PEOPLE I DON'T KNOW?
The rooms are designed for either eight or ten people. You are encouraged to book a room with a group but if your group totals less than the room's maximum, you may be teamed up with another group - this is part of the fun! It's also always great to have different people because different brains come up with different ways to figure out puzzles. If you would like a room to yourself, choose "book entire room" during the checkout process or contact us to make arrangements for purchasing the additional tickets.
HOW DO CLUES WORK?
You will get one free clue to start the game, and we will provide others when you ask. Clues will not be the answer to puzzles or the codes to locks, but will either give you enough information to solve a puzzle on your own or point you in the direction of a puzzle you haven't discovered yet.
WHAT ARE SOME TIPS TO SUCCESS?
Our name gives it away: Think critically about the clues and puzzles in the room. Not everything is what it appears to be. Here are some other pointers:
We ask that you arrive at least 5 minutes early to complete the liability waiver form and receive a complete mission briefing. We also will walk you through a handful of puzzles, demonstrate a few unusual padlocks, and offer tips and tricks that will help you find greater success and better enjoy your escape room experience. We cannot emphasize enough: ARRIVE EARLY!
Like everything in life, communication in an escape room is key. Tell one another each and every clue you come across and brainstorm with one another about what you may be discovering.
Divide & Conquer!
There are several puzzles that can be completed at the same time. Splitting up will help you save some time and will help you and your team escape faster. This is most important!
It's critical to start turning things over, look behind pictures, open drawers, etc when your time starts. The quicker you collect items to solve the room, the better your chances of escape are.
Don't be afraid to change direction!
If you think you have figured out a lock combination or the solution to a puzzle but you just aren't solving it, confer with your group or encourage someone else to try -- an hour is not a lot of time.
